JFK’s Granddaughter Diagnosed with Terminal Cancer

Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has revealed a deeply heartbreaking chapter of her life. In a personal essay for *The New Yorker*, the 35-year-old journalist shared that she has been diagnosed with terminal acute myeloid leukemia — a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer marked by an unusual genetic mutation called *Inversion 3*, found in less than 2% of AML cases.

Her diagnosis came shortly after she gave birth to her daughter in May 2024, during what should have been a joyful and peaceful time. Tatiana wrote that the news felt unreal, especially because she had felt healthy and strong throughout her pregnancy — even swimming a mile the day before her diagnosis.

Despite undergoing intensive treatment, including chemotherapy, a bone-marrow transplant, and participation in experimental clinical trials, doctors informed her that her cancer is resistant and that she may have less than a year to live.

In her essay, Tatiana reflects on the shock of suddenly facing her mortality, the fear of leaving her young children behind, and the overwhelming love and support of her family. Her story is a powerful reminder of the fragility of life, the unpredictability of illness, and the courage it takes to face such devastating news with honesty and grace.
